Howard County Fair Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Howard County Fair Association
The Howard County Fair Association annually presents up to six scholarships, each worth $2,000, to eligible candidates to help fund their education. The Association envisions that the beneficiaries of these scholarships will eventually come back to contribute to the fair as volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates should either be current members or alumni of the Howard County 4-H/FFA program and must have taken part in the Howard County Fair.
- Candidates are expected to be pursuing studies in fields related to agriculture, home economics, or similar areas including but not limited to: plant or animal sciences, business studies, consumer issues, child growth, economics, biochemistry, microbiology, veterinary science, and vocational education.
- Candidates must be at least in their junior year of high school.
- Previous recipients of the scholarship are not eligible to reapply.
- The scholarship funds will be directly transferred to the recipient's higher education institution. If the recipient is not enrolled in any such institution at the time of winning, the funds will be reserved for up to three years, after which they will be returned to the Howard County Fair Association, Inc.
- The Scholarship Committee's decision is final and binding.
EVALUATION CRITERIA
- 4-H/FFA Records indicating Citizenship, Leadership, and Achievement (50%)
- Leadership roles and involvement in the Fair (30%)
- Academic performance (15%)
- Future aspirations (5%)
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants need to provide a filled-out application, an official transcript of grades in a sealed envelope, and a head and shoulder photograph. All application documents will be returned afterwards.
Candidates should attach their latest 4-H Summary Form, 4-H Story, and 4-H Resume or FFA Proficiency Records to their application. If these documents are not up to date, they can be supplemented with an updated attachment. Evidence of recognition from community or school can also be attached.
The deadline to submit applications to the Howard County Fair Office is 6:00 pm on Saturday, August 12, 2023, which is also the last day of the Howard County Fair. The winners of the scholarships will be revealed at the Howard County Fair Stockholders Dinner, scheduled for the fourth Tuesday in October.
