Excellence in Ethics Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Simmons and Fletcher, P.C.
Introduction
Simmons and Fletcher, P.C. invites current and future law students to apply for our annual Excellence in Ethics Scholarship. Two awards will be distributed: a first-place scholarship of $1,000 and a second-place scholarship of $500.
Who may apply
To be eligible for the Excellence in Ethics Scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
- Be currently enrolled in, or have been accepted to, an accredited U.S. law school.
- Provide a completed application form.
- Submit an essay of at least 1,000 words in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx) addressing the importance of pro bono legal work.
- Ensure the file name of the submitted essay includes the applicant’s full name.
- Not have been a recipient of this scholarship in the immediately preceding year.
Applications that fail to satisfy these conditions will be disqualified from consideration. By submitting an entry, applicants agree that if they are selected as a winner, their essay may be published on our blog.
Essay guidelines
Your submission must be a minimum of 1,000 words and uploaded in Word format. The essay should explore why pro bono legal services matter, how they benefit people who cannot afford counsel, and the positive effects such work has on communities and the justice system. You may reference the encouragement of pro bono service by organizations such as the Texas State Bar and other state bar associations.
Important dates and notification
All application materials, including the Word essay, must be received by July 1 each year. Winners will be selected and informed on or before August 1. Successful applicants will be notified by email, and winners will be publicly announced on our website, social media channels, and via an official press release.
