Overview
The Glens Falls Foundation’s Gilberto and Lennetta Pesquera Fund provides annual scholarship grants to assist qualified students from the local area who are currently enrolled in medical school. Awards are typically $4,000 per year, although the exact amount depends on the number of applicants and available funds. Grants may be used only for tuition, fees, books, and supplies. Payments are sent directly to recipients by the end of July.

Who is eligible
- Open to first-, second-, third- and fourth-year medical students who graduated from local area schools.
- Applicants must reapply each year to be considered for continued funding.

Application and supporting materials
All materials received by the deadline will be forwarded to the Pesquera Scholarship Committee for review. In every case, applicants must arrange for their medical school to send an official copy of their current academic record/transcript directly to the Committee Chair (either electronically or in a sealed envelope).

Required items by applicant type:
1. First-year students
- Proof of acceptance/that they will be attending medical school.
- The completed and signed 3-page application form.
- A short paragraph describing medical area(s) of interest and career goals.
- Contact names, phone numbers, and email addresses for two personal references (non-family) who can speak to the applicant’s character, motivation, and potential.
2. Re-applicants (returning applicants in years 2–4)
- Official medical school transcript (sent directly by the school).
- The completed and signed 3-page application form.
- A brief paragraph updating current areas of medical interest and career goals.
- References are not required for re-applicants.

All materials must be received by the fourth Friday of June. Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision by the fourth Friday of July.

- Grants are restricted to tuition, fees, books, and supplies only.
- The Committee generally awards about $4,000 per recipient annually, subject to change based on demand and fund availability.
- Payments to successful applicants will be made directly to students by the end of July.
