Introduction
Key Housing Connections, a top provider of furnished short-term housing in California, is committed to supporting communities and investing in future professionals who will build careers in residential housing. We are pleased to announce our 2024-2025 scholarship opportunity aimed at students pursuing studies in housing-related fields such as design, engineering, management, or investment.
Who May Apply (Eligibility)
- High school seniors who intend to enroll in college, or
- Current college students who are freshmen, sophomores, or juniors.
Applicants may live anywhere in the United States. We welcome students with an interest in housing, real estate, or housing management to apply.
Award
- One essay winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Deadline
- Essays and the entry materials must be uploaded as PDF files no later than August 1, 2026, for consideration for the 2026-2027 school year.

- Submit a personal essay (maximum 2,000 words) written entirely by the applicant.

Addressing Short-Term Housing Challenges for Interns: Strategies and Solutions in the Current Rental Market
Context: Many student interns face difficulty securing affordable, flexible short-term housing. High rental costs, inflexible lease terms, scarce short-term options, and limited institutional support can prevent students from accepting valuable internship placements.
In your essay, please address the following:
1. Describe the housing obstacles interns commonly encounter.
- Discuss issues such as lease length and flexibility, affordability, availability in major metropolitan areas, and how challenges vary across different socioeconomic groups.
2. Analyze how present rental market dynamics affect interns’ ability to find temporary housing.
- Consider trends like increasing rents, low vacancy rates, and reductions in short-term rental supply.
3. Examine the responsibilities of employers, universities, and housing providers.
- What roles should each play in alleviating these housing barriers?
4. Recommend practical solutions to expand access to short-term, affordable housing for interns.
- Proposals might include new housing models, employer–university partnerships, policy reforms, or technology-based platforms. Support your recommendations with examples, data, or real-world case studies where applicable.
