STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program

Introduction The STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program is an initiative of The Actuarial Foundation designed to expand access for students strong in mathematics who are interested in actuarial careers. Selected scholars receive a $20,000 scholarship paid as $5,000 per year over four years, along with actuarial mentorship, exam study resources, hands-on in-person and virtual programming, exposure to internship and industry opportunities, and ongoing support throughout college. What the award includes - $20,000 total scholarship, disbursed as $5,000 each year for four years - Mentorship from professional actuaries - Resources to support actuarial exam preparation - Immersive experiences delivered both in-person and online - Connections to internships and other industry opportunities - Continued guidance and support across the scholar’s undergraduate studies Eligibility Applicants must satisfy all of the following: - Status: Be a current high school senior or have graduated high school within the past two years and be entering a four-year college or university as a freshman. - Academic standing: Have a minimum overall GPA of 3.0; OR an SAT Math score of 600 or higher; OR an ACT score of 25 or higher. - Mathematics preparation: Demonstrate strong math background (examples include coursework in Algebra and Calculus, satisfactory state test results—Proficient or Advanced—or completion of Advanced Placement math classes). - Recommendation: Provide a letter of recommendation from a principal, teacher, guidance counselor, or another qualified educational professional. - Career intent: Indicate a genuine intention to pursue a career in the actuarial profession. - Work authorization: Be legally eligible to work in the United States, since scholars may be connected to internships or other positions that require U.S. employment eligibility. U.S. citizenship is not required; applicants of any nationality who meet the work-eligibility and other criteria are welcome to apply. Selection process As part of the final selection, the program may conduct virtual interviews for the top 20 applicants.
