ASBC Foundation Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Alfred Street Baptist Church
The Foundation awards two types of scholarships, Millennium and Legacy. The Millennium Scholarships are funded by the Alfred Street Baptist Church and the ASBC Foundation. The amount of these scholarships is $20,000 disbursed over four years ($5,000 per year for four years). Two Millennium Scholarships are awarded annually. The Legacy Scholarships are funded by individuals or groups who may add their own criteria to Foundation requirements and determine the amounts to be awarded. Legacy scholarships awarded annually vary from $1,000 to $7,500. Most Legacy scholarships are one-time awards, however, there are a few that are renewable for up to four years.
What are the requirements to apply for the ASBC Foundation Scholarship?
- Graduate from a high school in the Washington, DC metropolitan area (Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, VA; Arlington County, VA; Fairfax County, VA; Falls Church, VA; Prince William County, VA; Prince Georges County, MD; Montgomery County, MD; and Charles County, MD) by June 30, of each year. If you are a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church, you may reside in other counties in Maryland or Virginia.
- US citizenship.
- Admitted to and committed to attend a four-year institution.
- Demonstrated commitment to community service.
- Maintain a solid academic record with a 2.5 or higher Grade Point Average. SAT and/or ACT scores that are provided are a plus.
- Exhibit financial need.
Must I apply online or can I mail in the application?
All students must apply online. All supplementary materials, including transcripts recommendations and test scores signed by a counselor or other school official, must be uploaded in the designated forms online. If the submission of official documents by email violates school policy or would require applicants to pay a fee, supplemental materials including transcripts recommendations and test scores signed by a counselor or other school official and submitted via snail mail on or before the application deadline will be considered.
Am I applying for one or more scholarships with this one application?
Applicants who complete the one ASBC Foundation application will be considered for all ASBC Foundation Scholarships.
What will I need to complete the application?
- In addition to personal contact information, students will need to provide information regarding their academics, work history, extracurricular activities, community service, religious service (if any), awards/honors, and anticipated college attendance.
- Contact information for both parents
- Contact information for a school counselor who will be asked to submit a transcript
- Contact information for a teacher who will be asked to submit a recommendation
- SAT or ACT Test Score Report
- FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Student Aid) SAR (Student Aid Report)
- Essay (250-400 words) on one of the topics provided in the application
Do I have to be a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church to apply?
You do NOT have to be a member of Alfred Street Baptist Church to apply for the ASBC Foundation Scholarships.
Can I complete the application over time?
You can complete the application over time, saving a draft and returning to your draft application at any time prior to the application deadline of April 15th at 11:59 pm. Until the application deadline, you can return to your application and edit (add or delete) information even if you have submitted your application. Please note that the application asks you to submit contact information that will be used to request a transcript from your counselor, a recommendation from a teacher, and possibly a copy of a tax return from your parents. This information should be supplied as soon as possible, ideally two weeks prior to the application deadline (approximately April 1st) to give recipients of the requests sufficient time to submit the requested information by the application deadline of April 15th at 11:59 pm.
